Facebook: automatic translation via Bing

Facebook is launching automatic page translation, thanks to Bing’s contribution. It will thus be possible to read the content of sentences written in other languages.

Facebook is becoming increasingly global: to allow for greater user interaction, a new feature has been introduced. This is the automatic translation of internal Facebook pages, enabling anyone to read content written in English, French, German, etc., in their own language.
A standard translation service, therefore, powered by Bing from Microsoft.
The functionality will be activated upon user request, primarily through downloading the official app, then clicking on the dedicated “Translate” button located under each important element, such as status updates, shared links, photo captions, etc…
The use case under comments is particularly interesting: in this scenario, as soon as the system detects words written in a language different from the user’s, the equivalent translation will be automatically proposed.
The translation result will be displayed in a new pop-up window that opens when the service is launched, thus not impacting the original post in any way, leaving it intact and without extra integrations.
And if the translation is not accurate and Bing cannot provide the Italian equivalent for a specific word – consider, for instance, colloquial or commonly used terms not found in any dictionary – users will be able to suggest their own translation to Bing , thereby contributing to the formation of a richer vocabulary for future use.
Currently, the translation service can only be used and tested on pages; personal profiles will have to wait.
As with any substantial new feature, there is undoubtedly a need for a trial period for full implementation.
