Google Cloud SQL, Cloud Database Ready

The future is in the clouds, Google knows this well and presents Google Cloud SQL, a new service useful for managing cloud databases.

A matter of coincidence, probably, or perhaps a distant comparison of speed, but within a handful of hours, while Oracle presented its cloud solution for databases, here comes the announcement of the birth of Google Cloud SQL, already available for download.
The search giant plays a new card that – in any case – does not deviate at all from the path it has been on for a long time: moving everything to the “clouds”, to the structures that work in cloud.
The developer benefits entirely from the lightness of their architecture, without the fear of data loss due to hardware failures or unperformed backups.
In fact, Google will take care of the traditional operations necessary for the correct management of a database. Of course, data loss is everyone’s nightmare: in this regard, Google assures that the new platform is designed to guarantee file saving across multiple data centers, thus averting any potential problems.
Google Cloud SQL interfaces excellently and completely with Google App Engine and is based on strong familiarity with MySQL, so the developer – in the final analysis – will only have to work on the code, leaving all other tasks to Google.
At the moment, Google Cloud SQL is available for free download in a “Limited Preview” version, useful for starting to test the service before its commercialization.
Indeed, the pricing that will be applied to use the service is expected in the coming days.
