The test has begun: on Facebook, instead of a profile picture, you can upload short videos.
A new feature is coming to PC and smartphone screens connected to Facebook, and it’s a significant innovation.
It is learned that in selected areas, a trial has been initiated regarding the profile picture of users registered on the social network.
The decision has been made to test a new presentation “window”: instead of the classic photograph, users will be able to upload a short video lasting a maximum of 7 seconds.
Introducing yourself with a short video will be the new business card for your social profile and – not coincidentally – the position of this element will also be changed.
Until today, we were accustomed to seeing the profile picture on the left of the screen. With the innovation regarding the creation of mini-videos, however, the choice has been made to give greater prominence to this element by moving it to the right.
Therefore, in the near future – upon completion of the trial phase – the profile picture – or presentation video – will be positioned in the center of the cover photo and with a larger size than now, precisely to give more importance to the dynamic element.
At the moment, tests in this regard are only being carried out for selected groups of users in California and the United Kingdom, and for those using an iPhone.
Subsequently – and considering the data that will be received from this trial – the innovations will be extended worldwide and to all devices, with any operating system.
Aigerim Shorman and Tony Hsieh – Facebook product managers – explained that people are spending more and more time creating and watching videos on Facebook, so the decision was made to pursue this new path.
This is certainly a very interesting update, not only for users but for the Facebook staff themselves, who admit they can’t wait to discover how subscribers will use this type of new tool.
