Amazon Flex is a new offering from the e-commerce giant that turns anyone into a delivery driver, for a fee.
Amazon’s increasingly sprawling network of services is expanding every day, not only in terms of its e-commerce catalog but also with regard to certain related services.
The news of the launch of “Amazon Flex”, the program that can give anyone the opportunity to earn money by delivering Amazon packages to buyers, is just a few hours old.
At the moment, the novelty has only been launched in the city of Seattle, but the service’s experimentation will soon continue in the cities of Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Manhattan, Miami, and Portland.
The operation of the Amazon Flex service appears quite simple: everything revolves around a specific app.
Thanks to geolocation (and therefore proximity to Amazon warehouses), you can check if there are packages to deliver in your area.
At this point, the aspiring delivery person can go to the warehouse, committing to deliver the goods within a maximum of 60 minutes.
To likely ensure faster delivery, private individuals are involved instead of couriers, allowing the buyer to receive their package in a very short time.
All this for a fee for the new delivery person, who should see a sum between 18 and 25 euros per hour recognized.
To become an Amazon “mail carrier”, you will need some essential requirements: first of all, you must be at least 21 years old.
Secondly, you will need an Android device on which to download the dedicated app. Furthermore, you will also need a car available.
However, there will probably be changes regarding this last point in the future, should the experimentation expand.
In fact, there are rumors that some deliveries in certain districts could also be made on foot (for example, in the Manhattan area) or by bicycle.
The scenarios are still all open and clearly only apply to specific geographical areas: a system like this can work in the immediate vicinity of Amazon warehouses, not anywhere in the various countries that will be included in the Amazon Flex program.
