Twitter posts a peculiar job offer: they are looking for a news director to oversee and disseminate.
Changes are on the way on Twitter, or rather, expansions of activities that have spontaneously arisen on the social network.
In the section dedicated to job offers, you can notice the presence of a new announcement, completely different from those that have usually appeared since its inception. In fact, it is not looking for system administrators, programmers, or developers, but the figure Twitter needs is a news director.
Therefore, it is seeking the ideal candidate to implement strategies to make Twitter a fundamental tool within newsrooms and for all journalists.
After all, the speed of disseminating news events has become the distinctive feature of the microblogging platform, and it is no coincidence that television programs, political platforms, and the print media increasingly cite Twitter as a primary and original source of news.
Far from wanting to become a news organization in the strict sense, reading Twitter’s job announcement instead highlights that the platform can become a means of collaboration with traditional media, and for this reason, coordinated and structured work is necessary, precisely by a news director.
The requirements to apply are not that widespread, as it requires at least 15 years of experience in the world of journalism and information, as well as 10 years leading work groups. A role of great responsibility must be supported by a solid foundation of experience, as it is noted that this new figure will in fact become the official representative of Twitter in the US information industry.
That something was about to happen in this sector had been clear for some time: in recent weeks, in fact, it has been learned that Twitter has welcomed various professionals into its staff, particularly from the newsrooms of the Washington Post and The Guardian, not to mention the world of television, with the arrival of staff from the Canadian network CBC.
In the coming months, therefore, we will witness some adjustments in Twitter’s communication policy and presence in the environments of traditional, conventionally understood, real-time information.
