They are called “Talking Shoes” and they are special interactive shoes made by Google: here is a presentation video.
The futuristic Google Glass have not yet reached end consumers, but here is Google announcing the existence of another everyday object that could capture the hearts of many technology enthusiasts. Indeed, the “Talking Shoes“, the interactive and smart sneakers by Google, have been presented via a video viewable at the end of this article.
The Talking Shoes will be able to communicate with Android devices via Bluetooth connection, but they won’t be limited to just passing information to smartphones and tablets.
The “Talking Shoes“, as the name of these sneakers suggests, will talk to the wearer: they will, for example, spur on the laziest, encouraging them to move and engage in physical activity.
Furthermore, the results of this interaction can always be shared on Google+, Google’s social network: in this way, a personal and individual object can incredibly generate streams of social sharing, perhaps receiving comments from friends.
From a purely material standpoint, the Talking Shoes have currently been developed based on Adidas footwear, incorporating a speaker (located on the tongue, under the laces), a gyroscope, an accelerometer, and various sensors positioned in the soles. The information collected by this technical equipment will then be processed by a dedicated app on the smartphone, becoming interactive and interesting.
The Google staff working on the Talking Shoes will likely make the project open source, in order to open up to developers’ ideas to make these particular shoes even more special and interesting than they already are.
