Only one day to change telephone provider: number portability becomes more streamlined and faster. Here are the new rules dictated by AgCom.
In the coming months, changing telephone provider will become simpler and, above all, faster: the AgCom has established some innovations that will come into force within the next three months.
In particular, the focus has been on the portability procedure for your telephone number: currently, those who wish to switch from one operator to another take an average of 3 working days for the procedure to be completed correctly.
In three months, times will be cut: only one working day to change provider, otherwise the possibility of requesting compensation arises in case of delays.
The AgCom also establishes that compensation claims can be made simply via call center or email, without necessarily having to resort to fax and registered mail.
The compensation claim must be made to the new chosen operator, who will be responsible for compensating the new customer from a minimum of 2.50 euros to a maximum of 50 euros, in relation to the days of delay suffered by the user.
So far, what directly concerns the consumer.
However, the AgCom has opened a discussion with telephone operators to analyze sector problems, such as the phenomenon called “sim young“, which is the increasingly rooted habit of buying a new SIM card and then immediately changing provider, in order to obtain promotions, bonuses, and perhaps free calls.
Another point that requires discussion is the so-called “persistent non-payment“: many customers leave one provider and move to a new one to avoid paying certain amounts.
It is therefore understandable how much still needs to be done to regulate this sector, but a first important step has just been taken.
