Apple is recalling many iPhone chargers from specific production batches: here’s how to request a replacement.
Apple has issued an official communication to kick off a program for the free recall and replacement of a specific charger model.
These are the chargers for iPhones sold in Europe between October 2009 and September 2012, with specific reference to the following models:
- iPhone 3GS,
- iPhone 4,
- iPhone 4S.
How can you tell if your iPhone charger might be defective and therefore needs to be replaced?
You need to pay attention to the codes printed on the charger you own: chargers that need to be replaced bear the code “Model 1300“, legible after the words “Designed by Apple in California“.
The Cupertino company states that it is possible – although only in rare cases – for the European 5W USB power adapter to overheat.
This could pose a safety risk, therefore the company has decided to invite customers to visit an Apple Store or Premium Reseller to initiate the replacement process.
As this is an official recall, the consumer will not be required to pay anything, as it will all be done completely free of charge, provided, of course, that you only and exclusively contact official channels, as indicated on Apple’s official website.
The potentially faulty products can be either chargers included in the sales packages of the aforementioned iPhone models, or items purchased individually, without the Apple device.
To get in touch with Apple and customer support, potentially also to request more information before visiting an Apple store authorized for replacement, you can view the dedicated page http://www.apple.com/it/support/contact/.
