Wind and Infostrada: Refunds Begin for June 2014 Blackout

Refunds have started for Wind and Infostrada customers who were without service on June 13, 2014.

On June 13, 2014, Wind and Infostrada telephone lines were entirely out of service for many hours.
This was due to a Wind network blackout that, in addition to affecting landline telephony, also caused disruptions for users of Infostrada’s fixed-line and ADSL services.
It has now been announced that, following formal complaints received, Wind is proceeding to activate refund procedures, within the timeframe and in the manner established during a meeting between company representatives, consumer associations, and the Communications Regulatory Authority.
Approximately 6700 individuals in total will benefit from the Wind refund, not the entire customer base of the telecommunications company.
The reason is straightforward: refunds will be issued to customers who initiated the refund request procedure through the consumer association Altroconsumo.
In the aftermath of the June 13 Wind blackout, Altroconsumo provided the opportunity to join a legal action against Wind.
All those who provided their details, joining the formal protest, will therefore receive compensation.
Had an equitable and fair agreement not been reached, Altroconsumo would have proceeded with the class action against Wind.
However, the matter has already concluded positively, with Wind’s willingness to refund customers.

At this point, all those who contacted Altroconsumo will receive instructions for the final refund request directly via email, to the address provided in the online form made available after the blackout.
Specifically, here’s how much the Wind refunds amount to:

  • Mobile subscriptions and landline telephony: a €2.5 discount will be applied to the first applicable bill, within two months; additionally, business users will be entitled to 1 GB of free internet browsing.
  • Prepaid cards: 1 GB of free internet browsing for those with an active data plan. Furthermore, a 20% bonus for all top-ups made within 48 hours of activation, up to a maximum value of €50. This bonus can be used within 30 days of activation and will be consumed before the user’s purchased credit.
