Amazon throws the stone and then hides its hand, managing perfectly to attract all the media attention it deserves.
The e-commerce giant, in fact, has put online a page regarding a new service, whose name is “Kindle Unlimited“.
Promptly everything was then obscured, but screenshots began to circulate quickly online, going around the world in no time.
What is Kindle Unlimited then?
It is the Amazon service that will allow you to have all the ebooks and audiobooks in the catalog available. You will pay a monthly subscription and then you can access this mine of electronic pages, viewable on your Kindle, on other ebook readers, or on all other electronic devices you have, simply by downloading the specific Amazon app.
Basically, you will have a large quantity of books in streaming, exactly as happens in the music sector with Spotify’s Premium subscription.
The price, according to the little information that can be gleaned from viewing screenshots of banners captured on the US Amazon platform, will be $9.99 per month, and therefore it is reasonable to think that the testing and subsequent launch phase of the service will initially start from the United States, before being extended elsewhere.
Moreover, similar services are already active across the ocean, for example offered by Sribd and Oyster: it is on this already well-trodden ground that this novelty can be tested and launched.
Although the novelty has attracted attention and positively impressed many, there are no voices that criticize a specific aspect which seems to be inherent in Kindle Unlimited: it seems, in fact, that the selected ebooks cannot be downloaded but only “rented”.
Once reading is finished – or more likely the time period available to temporarily hold a title – the ebook will disappear from the device, as it is not actually possible to save it on it.
It is not yet clear when the service will be officially activated, nor is it possible to predict the arrival of Kindle Unlimited in Italy, but as soon as we know more, we will certainly talk about it again.
