Amazon Marketplace is launching: although an official press release is still pending, a dedicated section for selling various product categories has been opened on the Amazon.it website.
While there is no official statement from Amazon yet, the news can be reported with a high degree of certainty: Amazon Marketplace is now opening in Italy. A link has appeared on the homepage of Amazon.it (“How to Sell on Amazon“) which leads to an internal page with instructions, service features, pricing, and access methods for the Marketplace.
Retailers will therefore be able to offer their inventory and product catalog, making them known to all customers of Amazon.
This is a significant innovation also because products sold on the Marketplace will not only be purchasable by customers in Italy, but will also be displayed – and thus purchasable – by potential customers browsing Amazon.de, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.fr; listings will appear on these foreign platforms as well.
This provides considerable reach for all products in Electronics, Software, and Video Games; these are currently the categories open in Italy, but approval for all other product types present on Amazon is expected soon.
To align the direct sales of Amazon with those of third-party sellers, the same shipping methods have been made available, utilizing Amazon’s system called “Fulfillment by Amazon” (or FBA): speed and reliable shipping are thus ensured.
Joining as a seller on Amazon Marketplace involves purchasing a subscription costing 39 euros per month, in addition to considering the commission percentages to be paid to Amazon: 15% on the sale of books, DVDs, and CDs; 7% on other product categories.
It is reasonable to expect a considerable expansion of the offerings on Amazon soon; Italians, who are still less accustomed to online shopping compared to other European countries, will thus be able to count on a new tool, similar in some ways to the eBay system.
