Google will draw from the photos and names of its service subscribers to display this data for advertising purposes: this is one of the new rules introduced.
Google has announced that in the coming weeks, a series of updates regarding the terms of use for its services will be introduced.
The official publication of the new terms will occur on November 11, 2013, but in the meantime, to summarize the content, Google has set up a dedicated page explaining what is about to happen.
The point that will be further elaborated in this article specifically concerns the first one, relating to how one’s first and last name and one’s photos will appear in Google products, and especially in advertisements .
It is in fact pointed out that “+1” given online – for Google Plus subscribers – and shares made relating to specific products may be displayed alongside advertising and announcements .
Contacts in circles might perform a search and find these indications among the results, as explained: “This only happens when the user takes an action (gives a +1, adds a comment, or follows someone), and the only people who see all of this are those with whom the user has chosen to share such content“.
The Google staff points out that it is possible to monitor how this information is shared through the page related to the Shared Endorsements setting .
From here, it will be possible to disable the possibility of appearing in advertisements, for example. However, it is important to know that the indication of name and photo will remain public regarding comments left on Google Play.
The situation changes entirely for users under 18 years of age: in this case, the aforementioned information will not appear in any advertisements at all, regardless of one’s settings.
