There is very important news from Facebook. It will be possible to tag photos on fan pages and not only on personal profiles. This important update has been well received by marketers dedicated to Facebook, but beware of spammers.
News are coming fast at Facebook. A striking one concerned fan page photos. In particular, it is now possible to add tags to fan page photos, a service that was previously reserved only for profiles. The novelty is that the photo will no longer be visible only on the profile’s timeline but also on the Facebook fan page that received the tag.
The operation is very simple. Just go to a photo and add a tag to the “brand” just as was done before with “people.” The photo, in turn, will appear on the fan page. Everyone can add tags to photos, not just those who clicked “like.” However, page administrators can prevent anyone from adding tags to photos by unchecking “Users can add photos” in “Manage Permissions,” an operation possible from “Edit Page.”
It is undeniable that this feature will bring even more life to web marketers who base all their operations on Facebook. Being able to add a tag to a photo of a person wearing a piece of clothing with a visible brand, for example, and display the photo on the brand’s fan page, is an important testimony for the label. A testimonial coming from the grassroots that, for this reason, could be more credible in the eyes of ordinary people.
However, although no one highlights it, with this novelty Facebook exposes itself even more to spam and spammers, some of whom come precisely from the underground world of unscrupulous pseudo marketers who will flood fan pages with useless photos and false tags. On the other hand, Internet history teaches us that growth, especially the dizzying and sometimes uncontrolled kind, exposes vulnerabilities. Google has been fighting spam for years with encouraging but not definitive results. We will see what will happen in Facebook’s near future.
