Google ChromeBook, Chrome-based notebooks coming soon

Here are the Google ChromeBooks, the Chrome-based notebooks that will be marketed in Italy from June 15. Here are the prices of Google ChromeBooks, produced by Acer and Samsung and also available by model “as a service.”

Eventful days full of news for Google: the conference Google I/O brought many innovations in Mountain View’s services and, after thinking about the cloud with Google Music, it’s time to discover also the hardware news, always connected to the concept of cloud, absolutely fundamental for Google’s future.
Indeed, the Google ChromeBook were presented, the notebooks based on Chrome that will be marketed in Italy starting from June 15th.
The manufacturers of the Google-notebooks are Samsung e Acer who have provided two models but probably more names will join this project in the coming months.
The feature that catches the eye first, according to Google’s press office, is the startup time of the Google ChromeBook: only 8 seconds. On one hand, one might be surprised by such speed; on the other, it should be emphasized that — since these are cloud-based notebooks — this should be expected and normal.
Google promises that the performance of the notebooks will improve over time, thanks to targeted updates that will be released from time to time.
Returning to the cloud, the direct consequence of this choice is indeed lightness and speed but also the ability to access your documents from any device. So, if the PC were to break or be lost, all documents would be safe in the “cloud.” For the same reason, even if you lend the notebook to someone, you can be sure: your privacy will not be violated. It is even possible to create a special “profile” for occasional users of the Google ChromeBook.
There will be no need for special programs because many applications are available that fulfill the purpose excellently, all available in the Chrome Web Store.

As for the physical and technical features, the Google ChromeBook are equipped with the Chrome operating system and Intel Atom Dual-Core processor. The hardware setup is quite similar for both models: two USB 2.0 ports, integrated webcam with microphone, very long battery life (8 hours for the Samsung, 6 hours or slightly more for the Acer), 4-in-1 memory card slot, extreme lightness for both. The Samsung screen is 12.1 inches while the Acer’s is 11.6 inches.
Now let’s move on to the prices: those for Italy have not yet been officially announced but based on what happens in the United States, the Google ChromeBook could cost about 429 euros (Wi-Fi only) or 499 euros (with 3G).
Very interesting is the promotion that Google has signed with 3 Italia: “The 3G models include a SIM card with 3 GB of free traffic provided by 3 Italia“, reads the official website.
We will be sure to provide more detailed information about the commercialization in Italy of the Google ChromeBook, also because Google has announced the possibility of renting the notebooks, paying monthly “all-inclusive” rates ranging from 15 to 21 euros.
