Google introduces a long-awaited novelty for subscribers of Google Plus, its social network.
It is learned that from today it will be possible to start using a nickname or a fantasy name, unlike what happened until today.
From the very beginning of the Google Plus project, the staff decided to make profiles inextricably linked to the users’ first and last names.
Nicknames and anonymity were forbidden: subscribers had to use their real personal data to register on the Mountain View social network. Everything was conceived with the aim of forming circles of real people, not hidden behind anonymity or fictitious names.
There have been many protests from subscribers since the beginning, for various reasons: it has often been pointed out that with stage names and online nicknames, subscribers could still maintain precise and recognizable identities, without being forced to use only their first name.
Despite the pressure from subscribers, Google has always refused this possibility, and just when people had gotten used to not being able to use data other than their real name and surname, the innovation arrives.
Therefore, pseudonyms are now allowed: the novelty was officially announced on the official Google+ account.
It was explained that the decision was made to reconsider this specific aspect because it was realized that a certain percentage of people are clearly inhibited from commenting or exposing themselves publicly online with their “first and last name.”
This does not mean that Google Plus will become a “no man’s land”: the staff will monitor those who, behind anonymity, want to take the opportunity to behave annoyingly and in pure troll style.
From today, therefore, anyone can register on Google+ without using real personal data.
Better late than never, one might object. However, as is known: when it comes to the “social network” sector, it cannot be said that Google has ever excelled in promptness or innovation.
