Google Bans Porn and Explicit Images on Blogger: How to Adapt

Stop to pornographic content and overly explicit images on the Blogger platform: Google warns and explains the reasons. Here’s what to do to comply and what the consequences may be.

An official communication from Google directly concerns those who have opened a free blog on the Blogger platform.
The Mountain View giant has announced that starting from late March 2015, pornographic images and explicit videos will no longer be tolerated.
Nudity, risqué photos, and hot content will no longer be accepted, neither now nor in the future. Furthermore, a request has been made to remove such content from past posts as well.
The consequences have also been clearly stated: starting from March 23, 2015 – the deadline by which adaptation is required – old blogs hosted on Blogger that do not remove pornographic content may continue to exist but will have to be made private.
Those who do not set their personal space to private will see an automatic adjustment by the platform in this regard.
Anyone who opens a pornographic blog after March 23, 2015, however, will see it closed without any warning from the moderation team.

There are, however, some exceptions, as specified in the official communication issued by the Google staff: “Images of nudity are permitted if the content is of public utility, for example in an artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific context.”
It is impossible not to raise some concerns regarding this specific note, as it remains quite discretionary to decide if and when an image can be evaluated as an artistic expression and not merely pornographic.
This issue is destined to spark controversy, but for now, based on Google’s decision, the path is quite clear: explicit content must be removed, or your blog on Blogger will find itself “hidden” and no longer public.
