News on the instant messaging platform WhatsApp: for a few hours now, the double blue checkmark has appeared.
The feature now allows you to know for sure whether a contact has read the message you wrote and sent.
As soon as the recipient reads the text or views the sent photo or video, the double checkmark changes color, turning blue.
Not only that: until late yesterday evening, a second feature was also noticeable, which disappeared this morning: by highlighting the sent message, the circled “i” symbol (the information icon, so to speak) appeared at the top.
Clicking on this icon would display information relating to the precise time of reading and reception.
The novelty has brought with it much controversy, and perhaps for this reason, the rollout of the double blue checkmark seems to have slowed down in recent hours, as not all WhatsApp users have had the opportunity to notice the inclusion of this update.
Complaints are indeed being made about the overly invasive and intrusive impact of this new feature. There are loud calls for respect for user privacy, who are now too closely “monitored.”
Even those who have set the function to hide the last access time will be able to be “controlled” in this way.
Therefore, explanations are awaited from the WhatsApp staff – now owned by Facebook – and at least an alternative solution to displaying the read time and the appearance of the double blue checkmark is hoped for: an option similar to hiding the last access time, or the implementation of a system of differentiated privacy levels chosen by the user, could indeed be studied.
