The popular messaging app WhatsApp is now available for PC: how does it work and what are its limitations?
“Much ado about nothing”: after months of speculation and, above all, user hopes, the official confirmation has arrived.
WhatsApp for PC has become a reality: the instant messaging app can now be used from the web, on desktop computers.
The news spread very quickly as soon as it was released by the WhatsApp development team via the official platform blog.
At the time of writing, not all WhatsApp users will be able to start testing this welcome feature immediately: the company has in fact “imposed” limitations, and it is not yet known when they will actually be removed.
It is noted that iOS terminal owners will not yet be able to use the service via PC, which is currently only for Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry users. The reason has not been fully clarified, citing a generic explanation of unspecified “Apple platform limitations”.
To start using WhatsApp via PC, you will first need to use Google Chrome as your browser; at this point, you can go to the specially set up web page:https://web.whatsapp.com/.
From here, you can scan the QR Code with your smartphone, and the web usage process will begin. You will not need to re-enter your phone number: everything will happen automatically, as you will be “transiting” via your smartphone.
It is therefore quite clear that, in order for the process to work, you must always have your smartphone available, and of course, it must be turned on.
It is expected that the development of WhatsApp for PC will continue successfully in the coming weeks and be further expanded: this can be inferred from the fact that on the WhatsApp web page, you can read “More browsers coming soon”, so work is certainly being done to extend the possibility of use to Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc…
Furthermore, a certain segment of users – iOS users – are counting on their quick inclusion in WhatsApp’s new feature.
