Vodafone, Tim, and Wind: Class Action Looms Over Price Hikes

Class actions are on the horizon against Vodafone, Wind, and Tim: customers are furious over unilateral price increases.

In recent days, there has been significant buzz on forums and social networks regarding the latest moves by Italy’s major telecommunications providers. The reason for this keen interest is quite simple: Vodafone, Tim, and Wind have decided to revise – upwards, naturally – many of their tariffs, especially those applied monthly for certain packages. Those complaining most vociferously about the increases are customers who previously signed up for promotions advertised as “forever” fixed-price plans, a phrase used not only in commercials but also on the official websites of the telecom operators. Consequently, the hypothesis of unfair commercial practice quickly emerged, and the Antitrust authority has indeed intervened. However, this is not enough for consumer associations, particularly Adiconsum, which is preparing to launch a class action against Vodafone, Tim, and Wind. “Adiconsum calls for the telephone companies to at least transform the old contracts, this time favorably, by offering, at the same cost, at least similar, if not possibly more modern, services” explains Pietro Giordano, National President of Adiconsum.

Unilateral modifications to mobile phone contracts detrimental to consumers are on the rise, especially in recent weeks. The official press release from Adiconsum highlights that “Tim, Wind, and Vodafone are not honoring what was agreed upon in old contracts, and package offers with fixed prices forever or for a certain number of years are being canceled without even notifying consumers.” Before initiating class action proceedings, Giordano stated that they are still awaiting intervention from Agcom, which has not yet commented on this widespread situation. If no response is received, the association will consider initiating a possible collective compensation action.
