**TomTom** will equip **Apple** devices with maps: the agreement between the two companies has been reached and therefore **Google Maps** will be out of the game.
The abandonment of Google Maps by Apple is now certain and official: the upcoming devices equipped with the new operating system iOS 6 will feature a new map provider.
It is TomTom the company chosen by Apple for the new Maps app that will bring maps and directions to the terminals created in Cupertino.
Although the two companies haven’t revealed the details – especially financial ones – of the agreement, what is certain is that from next autumn the new iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches will have 3D maps and, in fact, also a navigation system, in the classic TomTom.
style. A portion of the revenues from advertising banners that may be inserted into the maps themselves, which would aim for Apple-owned cartography, should be directed to this latter company.
The news, although anticipated in the halls hosting the Apple developers’ conference, was actually officially conveyed by TomTom’s press office with a brief statement, without declarations from executives of either party.
So here it is, as foretold on the pages of FullPress, that even the new Google move to enhance its maps sector today takes on an even stronger and more explicit meaning.
Here is also a completely new scenario regarding the fact that, with the extension of the voice recognition system Siri – soon in Italian – also to cars, Apple devices and TomTom road maps will be able to communicate even better.
The news of the agreement has so far received evident appreciation: the new Maps app by Apple seems to be liked – at least immediately after its presentation – while the market has immediately rewarded TomTom, leading to a clear jump in the stock prices of the Dutch company.
In the fall, we will therefore be able to see the finished result of this alliance which, in fact, excludes Google from the Apple universe: the competition between the two giants is now increasingly marked.
