Skype: 30 Minutes of Free Calls to Apologize for Disruptions

Skype apologizes to its users for the technical issues of the past few days by offering 30 minutes of free calls.

Unlike many telecom operators in case of service disruptions, Skype has spontaneously decided to offer 30 minutes of free calls to users who, in recent days, were unable to use its VoIP services.
Following the Skype blackout, the situation has largely returned to normal, including group video calls. However, Skype – through its CEO Tony Blates – apologizes to its loyal users with 30 minutes of free calls.
Beyond this welcome initiative, which will certainly please registered users, there are currently hypotheses circulating about the real reasons for the past few days’ blackout. Although Skype provided an official explanation for the malfunction (related to supernode issues), the possibility that it was a remote attack is not being ruled out today. This hypothesis, though quickly dismissed, was nonetheless considered, raising concerns for the engineers who worked hard to restore the service.
A Skype voucher will soon be issued, intended for “pay as you go” and “pre-pay users”: 30 minutes of free calls to landlines worldwide as an apology for the disruption. Kudos to Skype!
