It’s called the Polaroid iM1836 and it’s a mirrorless camera produced by Polaroid and based on the Android operating system.
Polaroid has recently launched a brand new camera, the Polaroid iM1836. What mainly characterizes this mirrorless camera is, first and foremost, the fact that it is equipped with the Android operating system, and specifically version 4.1.
Actually, the other aspect truly worthy of note is discovering that the sensor has been placed inside the lens. Of course, neither in the first nor in the second case is this an absolute novelty in digital photography: there is already a camera with Android – the Samsung Galaxy Camera – just as there is already a camera with such a sensor, and we are talking about the Ricoh GXR.
The Polaroid iM1836 therefore mounts an 18x sensor and allows you to record 1080p videos.
As for the screen through which to control framing, shots, and any settings you may want to adjust, it is a 3.5-inch display.
Connectivity is ensured by two types of integrated modules: there is indeed the possibility to connect via Wi-Fi and to exchange photos and videos via Bluetooth.
From an aesthetic point of view, however, the design of the Polaroid iM1836 is quite reminiscent of the Nikon J1.
A hybrid in all respects, it would seem.
Regarding the possibility of changing lenses, it should be noted that the company assures its possibility, however many have shown skepticism since the choice to incorporate the sensor is certainly not common to all companies in this sector.
In any case, Polaroid has assured potential buyers of the new camera that adapters will be available soon, to make interchangeable lenses usable.
While waiting to see this camera in person, expected in US stores during March, it is already possible to announce the price of the Polaroid iM1836: it will cost 399 dollars.
