In the near future, there will be films about augmented reality, and the producer will be Facebook.
Big news is on the way for social networking giant Facebook, but this time not strictly related to the online activity for which it has dominance.
It is learned that Facebook will soon present – albeit indirectly, so to speak – the first films made for augmented reality.
In reality, it will be the company Oculus VR that develops the project, but the latter was recently acquired by Facebook.
Therefore, the innovations for these new technologies will be produced by the social network giant, which has indeed given new life to the company, pushing for the resumption of work on film creation.
Naturally, it will start with studies on the Oculus VR augmented reality headset, and from here it will move into the film industry, even though the startup initially focused solely on the gaming sector.
Probably also thanks to the new funds raised through the acquisition by Facebook, the decisive push has arrived to create the “Oculus Story Studio” department.
On the occasion of the “Sundance Film Festival”, it was therefore decided to present the first accomplished result of this new path: it is a short film titled “Lost”.
Naturally – it would also be useless to emphasize it – to watch the film, you will have to wear Oculus Rift. In this way, in addition to watching the film, you will have the opportunity to feel completely “immersed” in the proposed atmospheres, since the viewer – by moving their head and looking in various directions, at their own will – will be able to discover any nuance, capturing more details, exactly as happens in everyday dynamic reality.
Rather than immediate effects in the film industry, the company Oculus VR – in symbiosis with Facebook – is demonstrating what can be created in the coming years, likely not so much by replacing but by enriching the current technical equipment used in the production of feature films.
