The Facebook Messenger app is effectively becoming mandatory for those who use messaging and chat on the social network.
Facebook is currently sending emails to its subscribers regarding a change to be aware of.
The social network giant has in fact decided to give more space to its Messenger app, despite the recent acquisition of WhatsApp.
Those who expected a “preference” for the latter, in fact, will have to think again: the Facebook staff is continuing to develop and improve Messenger, as if it were the only messaging product owned by the company.
However, to give an additional boost to the spread of the tool, it has been decided to make the download of Messenger effectively mandatory if you want to continue using Facebook chat.
The novelty will clearly only relate to the use of the service from smartphones and tablets, certainly not from the classic web view. Above all, the transition from one mode to the other will be gradual, giving subscribers time to download Messenger and familiarize themselves with the application.
Facebook believes that the Messenger app has been designed to deliver messages more quickly and reliably, not only textual messages but also those containing videos, photos, and images in general.
This first phase will see the introduction of the Messenger app only for Android and iOS users, while Windows Phone users will have to wait a while longer.
Perhaps this is also why the process of replacing the old Facebook chat with Messenger will still take a few weeks.
From the user’s perspective, it must be said that the experience will change considerably: if until now it has been possible to manage everything through a single app, from now on a second application will have to be monitored. It will be like having two distinct and separate services, although probably on the Facebook app you will receive an alert notifying you of messages to read – and to which you can respond – via the Messenger app.
At the moment, in addition to receiving the aforementioned notification email, Facebook subscribers are also noticing the appearance of a specific alert every time they use the Facebook app: a reminder that invites them to download Messenger, which cannot be ignored and which will therefore soon become common among users worldwide.
For those who, for any reason, do not intend to use Messenger, the only solution at the moment is to continue consulting messages and chats only via the web and not via mobile.
