Nonciclopedia closes and the web gets angry with Vasco Rossi

Nonciclopedia closes or, at least, is no longer accessible: after a complaint filed by the lawyers of Vasco Rossi for defamation, the site has closed its pages. The news is still very present on Twitter, after the protest has risen, amid irony and real indignation.

Nonciclopedia has closed… Or rather no: the “parody” site of Wikipedia has gone on strike, as can be seen by visiting the homepage of the site itself.
Since this morning, its internal pages are no longer accessible due to a legal matter that is far from being concluded but, on the contrary, in the midst of its unfolding.
Apparently Vasco Rossi, or rather the pool of his lawyers, about a year and a half ago allegedly requested the removal of the pages concerning the Blasco himself. The reason: the description of Vasco Rossi offered by Nonciclopedia – a site that brazenly makes fun of everything and everyone – was seen by the singer-songwriter as defamation and not as satire.
On the homepage, for a few hours now, instead of closure as initially announced, there’s talk of a “strike“. It is indeed possible to read: “Nonciclopedia is striking indefinitely because of those people who take themselves too seriously. Our sincere thanks to VASCO ROSSI and his vultures… lawyers.
A further message to readers has just appeared: “Attention: as if that weren’t enough, we are also having problems with our host, Wikia, who is preventing us from carrying out our strike by returning everything to normal. We will keep you updated.”
The web has expressed itself extensively on the matter, raising a real wave of opinions on Twitter: it’s no coincidence that the most tweeted term in Italy today is the slightly inelegant “vascomerda” (Vasco shit); which says a lot about the sentiment circulating these hours on the web regarding this affair.
However, Vasco Rossi’s spokesperson, Tania Sachs, replies that the singer did not request the closure of the site, but that this was a decision made autonomously by the owners of Nonciclopedia, probably following the fact that the judge handling the matter informed the parties involved that the elements for speaking of the crime of defamation could indeed be configured.
The web does not forgive Vasco for an action that has been interpreted as censorship, especially given Vasco’s new digital and social identity, as on his Facebook page he has accustomed fans and observers to his clips full of personal opinions.
Also in this case, in recent days, there has been a protest from consumer associations and even some doctors, in the wake of some statements by Vasco regarding the use of soft drugs and his view of life with cancer.
Vasco has rejected the accusations, specifying that they were only personal opinions and not dictates or incitements to the public.
In short, the web on one hand is a means for Vasco, on the other hand, it has been a source of annoyance, given the disputes with Nonciclopedia.
Will the affair end up in court?Nonciclopediawill reopen by simply deleting the pages related to Vasco? There will certainly be developments in the coming days.
