Microsoft: Stop to Revenge Porn on Bing, OneDrive, and Xbox Live

Microsoft formalizes its intention to curb revenge porn on Bing. Measures also on Xbox Live and OneDrive platforms.

The Bing search engine will strive to help victims of revenge porn. Microsoft has indeed formalized the decision to activate a series of tools useful for reporting such cases.
Pornographic revenge against ex-partners or acquaintances, for whom intimate videos or photos are held, will also be banned on Bing.
Exactly as has been happening for several weeks on Google, this does not mean that the images themselves will be completely eliminated, as they reside on various online sites and platforms that cannot be “controlled” by Microsoft in any way.
However, the decision by the Microsoft and Bing staff will allow revenge porn victims to report a violation with even greater ease, subsequently preventing its inclusion in the search results presented to internet users for that specific page where the photo was posted or the video was uploaded.
Microsoft has, however, announced that – in addition to removing links from Bing’s SERPs – it will also proceed with the complete removal of reported files, in cases where they have been uploaded to the cloud storage services OneDrive and/or Xbox Live.
These measures are beginning to take on an increasingly central and important role in the fight against revenge porn.

Major tech companies – such as Google, but also as is also happening on Twitter – seem to be decidedly aware of the impact this phenomenon is increasingly having, thus seeking to apply technical tools at their disposal to curb this scourge that undermines self-esteem and damages trust, professional, personal, and family relationships.
Microsoft’s promise is therefore to contrast the phenomenon, facilitating reporting but above all providing a practical solution in the short term, within a short period, with speed and without further delays.
