So.cl launches, Microsoft’s social network: beta version

Microsoft is ready to officially enter the social networking era with the So.cl project, launching in beta.

Months have passed since there was talk of So.cl, Microsoft’s social network prematurely and carelessly revealed due to the site’s own registration So.cl and the publication of an image – later withdrawn – which made it clear that a social network 2.0 was being worked on.
The news is that So.cl – or Socl – is now actually ready for launch and can already be used, although in beta version.
Compared to the “clues” left months ago, the current So.cl features a new interface but does not abandon the project of being a platform that, besides offering a user connection system typical of social networks, also integrates the ability to use the Bing search engine.
In reality So.cl was created more as a project for sharing material for students than as a generalist social network tout court but the ambition instead seems to be precisely to become a means of communication used daily by everyone, like Facebook, Google+, and Twitter.
On the personal page, it is possible to upload various items: from photos to videos and multimedia material of various kinds.
It is also possible to use proprietary tools provided by Microsoft to make photo collages, for example.

Connections would form more based on other factors than common interests, in fact the core of So.cl are the so-called “topics”, thus relevant subjects that can be circulated in the personal network of contacts and also publicly.
And precisely in this way, through the search engine, you can discover who shared what, as well as new contacts with similar interests.
Therefore, So.cl – at least on paper – seems to really offer something different compared to the better-known social networks, although it must be admitted that it “borrows” various ideas and aspects from these.
Currently, the beta version of So.cl is offered only in English and it is not clear if the beta will be released in Italian as well. More realistically, it is reasonable to think that the situation will remain the same until the final product launch.
