Natale Lavorato’s professional journey develops in the area of Information Technology and marketing, holding progressively responsible roles. He began in the 1990s at Misco Italy Computer Supplies S.p.A. as Product and Trainer Specialist. He then moved to Actebis SPA in the Information Technology sector (B2B) as Product Manager. In 1997, he was at Computer 2000 SPA in the Information Technology sector (B2B) as Networking/Communication Division Manager. He returned to Misco Italy Computer Supplies S.p.A. in 1998, still in the Information Technology sector (B2B, B2C), serving as Group Product Manager. Since April 2000, he has been with Secondamano.it (part of the multinational group Trader.com) in the fields of E-Business, Internet, Information Technology (B2B, B2C, C2C) as Internet Manager. He joined Netgear in 2000 serving as Country Manager for Italy with the task of launching and consolidating the new Netgear office in Italy. During these years, Natale Lavorato helped strengthen the company’s positioning in the Italian market, completing important commercial agreements and partnerships, such as the one with Skype®. In 2006, he was appointed Managing Director Southern Europe. With this new role, Natale Lavorato aims to increase the coordination level of local activities and to reinforce the company’s presence in the Southern European market, which includes Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal.
What is the state of the Italian market and what are the prospects? The Italian market is mainly composed of small and medium-sized enterprises which represent more than 90% of the companies in the country. Netgear’s offer consists of products primarily aimed at addressing the needs of this target, so it can certainly be said that both now and in the future there are interesting development opportunities that need to be seized. What is the consumers’ relationship with this market? It is a market that has only recently been approaching the consumer world, so there is still a lot of work to do to explain to users what the real benefits of using new Networking technologies in the home environment can be. To date, there is greater openness and this will certainly help in the development and proposal of solutions towards this customer target. What is Netgear’s vision? It is to be the reference for innovative Networking solutions for all customers in the Small Business and Home market. Netgear designs, develops, and markets advanced technology Networking products under its own brand to meet the needs of the aforementioned market. Who is your typical customer? Small and medium-sized enterprises with up to 250 employees and the home office user Who are your competitors? Actually, they vary based on market segments; in the SMB area there are some players more tilted towards business products which however have a slightly different offering from ours (for example, not all have a range of Smart Switches like ours) while in the home environment there are other players much more skewed towards consumer who have different business philosophies. What does Netgear offer that competitors present in Italy do not, why choose you? Because Netgear produces Networking products characterized by being easy to use, of high quality, reliable, high performing and suitable for the demands of these users. NETGEAR has about 100 products in its portfolio that allow users to manage access to the Internet, peripherals, files, multimedia archives (audio and video), and applications that stand between the Personal Computer and other Internet Devices. What are the industry innovations? Mainly from VOIP (the skype phone is an example), ADSL (all our products are ADSL2 and 2+), and Wireless (we have just launched products compatible with draft N at 270 Mbit) How did last year go and what are your future goals? We can say that market shares are increasing not only in Italy but also worldwide; in fact, this year Netgear worldwide generated revenue of 409M$ in the first 3 quarters, an increase of 25% compared to the same period last year. For the future, we will definitely continue to launch technologically innovative products always aligned with the needs of our two main target customers, small and medium enterprises and home.
