For a few hours now, Il Fatto Quotidiano cannot be shared on Facebook: those managing the official page can access the account and publish status updates, but sharing articles is completely blocked. Even readers are unable to share anything but notes.
Has Il Fatto Quotidiano been blocked by Facebook as an act of censorship?
This is the question circulating, although the newspaper’s editorial staff mostly suspects an error, which has already been reported to the Facebook staff but not yet resolved.
We also tried, here in the newsroom, to share an article from Il Fatto Quotidiano on Facebook, with the result that can be seen in the photo: operation failed.
Immediately after clicking the “Share” button, a pop-up appeared with this notice: “Some blocked content is already marked as offensive or spam. Let us know if you think this is an error“.
The editorial staff of Il Fatto Quotidiano is inviting all readers to report the error to Facebook.
What happened is still unknown: it could be a technical anomaly, or someone – perhaps an organized group of people – may have repeatedly reported articles with allegedly inappropriate content to Facebook.
Given the automated systems, it is possible that upon reaching a certain number of reports, links originating from ilfattoquotidiano.it were automatically blocked.
We will certainly follow the evolution of the situation in the coming hours, verifying if link sharing will be restored.
UPDATE: the situation seems to have returned to normal, so links from Il Fatto Quotidiano are shareable again. The news is confirmed on the newspaper’s Facebook page, everything appears to have been resolved around 5 PM.
