Google TV: Project Concluded in Favor of Android TV

Google TV is shutting down, as officially confirmed by the company itself, which is focusing on other “collateral” projects.

“We will focus our efforts on the Android TV and Google Cast ecosystems”: this is an excerpt from an official communication released via Google+ by the Google staff.
In summary, therefore, the decision has been made to suspend any further updates to Google TV, effectively shutting down the service.
All devices that use technology connected to Google TV will certainly not stop functioning, but generally, the entire platform is being retired, although it appears that in the coming hours some users will be able to perform an additional update. At the moment, however, Google has not specified which devices will be able to perform the upgrade, which will likely allow – probably the most recent devices – to access the newer Android TV technology.
If the latter project still has much to offer the sector and is only in the phase of a promising rise envisioned by Google, it must be acknowledged that Chromecast is experiencing great success, on which Google intends to continue to focus.
All the more so as the introduction of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system is fostering many new projects initiated between the Mountain View giant and major TV manufacturers.
Indeed, work is underway on new TV models capable of interacting with smartphones and tablets in a new way, through the same APIs valid and recognized by all these devices.

A series of connected releases is therefore expected in the coming months, from Philips TVs with Android (actually already presented these days during CES 2015) to smart TVs from other manufacturers such as Sony or Sharp, true giants who are not letting slip the new challenge of interactive living room entertainment.
