Apple has received approval for the patent relating to a flexible iPhone.
News from Apple: it has been positively registered that a patent concerning a flexible smartphone has been approved.
Indeed, it is reported today that the US Patent and Trademark Office – the competent authority for patents in the United States – has expressed a positive opinion on the registration application for a new project named ‘Flexible electronic devices’.
This opens up a seemingly futuristic scenario, more achievable than one might imagine.
After all, curved screens used for smartphones and televisions have been a reality for some time, so it is legitimate to hypothesize a subsequent step in this direction.
Apple could therefore produce a fully flexible iPhone in the future, made with components capable of bending, both for the casing and for the internal components, naturally.
As has often happened in the past, the fact of having filed a patent does not mean the subsequent actual release of the product on the market. Often these are just studies and research, prototypes, or tools that are functional for further future developments of new technologies.
This means that it is not certain that Apple’s next step will undoubtedly be the launch of a flexible iPhone, however, it is reasonable to think that such a patent could be very useful in trying to limit the damage from using one’s smartphone.
Just think of the controversies related to the fact that the latest iPhone models were reportedly bending (erroneously, due to a structural defect) when kept in trouser pockets.
Or perhaps one can expect some innovation regarding the inherent fragility of some phones, which, by focusing on flexible technologies, could become more resistant.
The horizons that can be glimpsed in this regard are therefore numerous and certainly interesting, but it is not guaranteed that they are so close.
