First rumors from the tablet front for Google: the Nexus Tablet with the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform seems to be under study. Here are the first rumors about it.
That tablets are the new devices on which a more significant battle than initially thought is being waged, is now a certainty. Thus, according to some rumors, Google would also be preparing in this sense, with the study of a Nexus Tablet.
For the material realization of the Google-branded slate, it seems the choice might have fallen on LG, while regarding the platform that the hypothetical Nexus Tablet will be equipped with, there is talk of Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
The news, although little more than a rumor, is also fueled by another consideration: it seems that Google has proposed to tablet manufacturers a halt to Android system updates, deciding to keep the release of Android 3.0 Honeycomb for itself on a tablet that, at this point, would be exclusively for Google devices.
If this were indeed confirmed, the hypothesis of the launch of a Google tablet would begin to become evident.
While it’s impossible not to remember that the sales of Nexus One were not exactly a success story (slightly better for Nexus S), the situation could be quite different when talking about tablets: the market, although expanding, is still far from saturated and, above all, a true competitor to iPad and iPad 2, on sale in Italy from Friday, March 25th, has not yet emerged.
Considering that LG is currently about to launch the Optimus Pad tablet, with a 3D effect screen, it is possible that the foundation for working on the Google tablet is already well established.
Certainly, it is unlikely to see anything concrete before the summer.
