Google Nexus Player available for purchase in Italy: price and information

Italian debut for Google’s brand-new Nexus Player. Contrary to what one might expect, sales of this new living room device for multimedia content did not start through the online Google Store but through another distribution channel.
Google Nexus Player has indeed appeared on Amazon, sold by a Marketplace seller and shipped by Amazon.
The set-top-box produced for Google by ASUS was presented last year by the Mountain View giant and is therefore ready to arrive in Italian homes, so as to “enrich” their TV with multimedia content.
However, it is specified that – although the use may seem similar – Nexus Player is not intended to replace or compete with the Chromecast dongle.
After all, just considering the respective prices, there can be no doubt: the cost of the first device is as high as the cost of the second is low.
In fact, Nexus Player is more than just a way to stream content from apps or YouTube to your home TV. At the same time, Nexus Player can be compared to a console designed for gaming, directly utilizing all the titles available on the Play Store.
There are also many channels made available by this home entertainment system, which can draw, for example, from Netflix, Pandora, DailyMotion, and many other similar “containers” of this kind.
However, in its provision – both physical and, so to speak, “potential” – the sore point regarding the price of Google Nexus Player in Italy seems to be out of tune.
One would have expected a price aligned with that offered in other countries where the device has already been distributed; instead, it is significantly higher.

On Amazon, for example, Google Nexus Player currently costs 160.91 euros, while in Germany the price is 99 euros.
Even in the United Kingdom, it will be cheaper to purchase it: it has already been announced that it will cost 79 pounds to take the set-top-box home, starting from the launch date of March 26, 2015.
It remains to be seen whether the Italian price will be lowered by Google’s own staff when Nexus Player is introduced on the Play Store. However, it is not possible to say when this will happen, so at present, the only way to purchase the device is offered by Amazon.
