Google eBooks is arriving, the project for selling ebooks and books in electronic format that takes the baton from Google Editions. Consistent with the pure spirit of cloud-based service development, Google eBooks allows you to store and read your newly acquired ebook as if you were opening your Gmail inbox. Each user will have a Google Account to reference when purchasing ebooks from the rich catalog offered by Google eBooks and its connected partners.
The texts will be saved in the personal account, forming your own library, so you can always recall the work to consult, even when it has not been downloaded to a physical medium.
This essentially means that you will be able to return to reading the ebook even from different devices, not limiting the reading to a single device, whether it be an ebook reader or a netbook. The Kindle is excluded from the list of compatible devices, but this should not be surprising, given that the device distributed by Amazon is, so to speak, a competitor’s product.
The customization options help in choosing your preferred font, font size, and the “night” or “day” reading option.
Google eBooks is compatible with both Android and Apple, thanks to the free applications provided.
The arrival of Google eBooks in Europe is expected in the coming months, during 2011; therefore, for the moment, the first market to test Google’s digital text store will be the United States.
