An incredible story is emerging from Wilmersdorf, Germany: Google Street View cameras have captured a live birth. A baby was born on the street, on a sidewalk, in the open air, and Google Street View immortalized the moment.
The scene is clearly visible (as shown in the accompanying photo): the new mother can be seen collapsed on the ground, supported by someone and assisted in giving birth by a third person. The photo, as reported by Ansa, was saved and surfaced by the site Gizmodo before being replaced with a different version, “cleaned up” from the protagonists of this incredible event.
The news of this live birth on Google Street View is rapidly circulating the web, both for the exceptional nature of the situation and because Germany has recently seen episodes of protest against what is considered the invasiveness of Google Street View.
While the new mother undoubtedly had much else on her mind, some German citizens considered it important to inform Google that the mapping service is not welcome at all, explicitly requesting the blurring of their homes, and even the deletion of an entire village.
The result, on Google Street View, is essentially a blurred image of the houses in question. Some Google fans have since acted, animated by the slogan “Google is cool“, throwing eggs at the blurred buildings.
In short, Google Street View in Germany has sparked strange coincidences and acts ranging from the jocular to the vandalistic.
