In a surprise move, Google has launched Google Books in Italian, making numerous ebooks in Italian already available.
This morning many Android users noticed a novelty: it has been officially launched “Google Books” in Italian.
The surprise is great, both because there had been no leaks about it yet, and because Italy was chosen for the launch of the service in a language other than English.
As with all services of this kind, to activate Google Books or to start downloading ebooks in Italian you just need to access the Google Play Store.
If you do not yet have the Google Books app, you can proceed to download it for free.
Afterwards – or if you already have the service icon because you downloaded it earlier – you must start the app as usual.
At this point, the service home page will open: from here you can directly search for the ebook of interest or start browsing the various offered categories.
By clicking on the individual title, you will have the opportunity to read a presentation sheet and proceed with the purchase at the proposed price.
There are also free ebooks in Italian but, as is often the case on other ebook stores, they are mostly classic book titles or at most the first episodes of series.
Obviously, there is the possibility to leave a review and rate the books downloaded and read, just as normally happens for any application and frequently also on traditional online book stores.
Many publishers have actually joined the project and have already made the catalog of their books available in ebook: a clear sign that publishing is moving towards those readers who, rather than a paper book, are increasingly preferring the electronic format.
The fact that you can then have the downloaded ebook on Google’s cloud is an additional advantage for those who want to continue reading even on a different device than the one used to download.
The next step for Google – concerning the Google Books project – will be to offer the application also to iPhone and iPad owners: it is no secret that the Google team is working on exporting its apps considered of greatest interest to the Apple Store.
