Facebook is about to acquire Bing: rumors

Just concluded the surprising acquisition of Instagram, Facebook is about to make another stunning move: according to increasingly persistent rumors, Facebook intends to purchase Bing, the search engine of Microsoft.
The rumor has been circulating for a few days and its source is not anonymous at all: it was Gary Kaminsky, a CNBC analyst, who first mentioned it, although he did not want to disclose his sources.
The project for Facebook to enter the search engine sector is now well known; at the same time, the fact that Bing has never really found a position to seriously challenge Google, the undisputed giant, is obvious.
There could therefore be a mutual advantage behind the possibility of Bing being purchased by the social network giant, especially since it is said to be a deal played out with stock packages rather than real cash payments.
The hypothesis is not at all remote since Bing is already a partner of Facebook and especially since Microsoft already holds a certain percentage of shares of the “blue site”.
At the time of writing, neither Microsoft nor Facebook have issued official statements: there are therefore no confirmations of this rumor but it should be noted that there are also no official denials.
This makes everything more credible, also based on the fact that Bing is currently not providing financial satisfaction to the Redmond executives but is rather causing increasing losses.

Offering a product that works anyway – although not fully performing – to the world’s largest and most populous social network would give Facebook itself an extra boost, which on its part should not have to invest large sums, having at its disposal a tool certainly to be perfected but undoubtedly not to be built from scratch, saving money and professional resources.
If Bing were actually acquired by Facebook, probably for the first time in its history Google would face a potential real threat, nothing comparable to what has happened until now.
