Bing Translator (originally Bing Traduttore) is the new translator for smartphones on Windows Phone. The novelty is that it’s a translator that fully embodies the concept of augmented reality.
While Google is increasingly working on real-time translations with voice input through its Google Translate, Bing is making its mark in the smartphone translation sector by introducing “Bing Translator“.
This is an application primarily designed and refined for Windows Phones, but compared to a classic translator available on mobile devices, the new Bing Translator enters the field of augmented reality.
Available for a few hours now in Italy under the name “Bing Traduttore“, this application primarily works by activating the camera: simply point at the words of interest (e.g., on a billboard, a newspaper, or at a ticket counter at a station, to give a few usage examples) to see the translation on the screen.
The words in our language (or in general in the selected language) will be superimposed on the real image that has just been captured, in order to be analyzed and then translated.
Furthermore, by preliminarily setting the desired languages, Bing Traduttore will be able to retrieve corresponding phrases and words even without the smartphone being necessarily connected to the network.
An almost indispensable tool for travelers. This application is even more interesting because it has been released on the Windows Phone MarketPlace completely free of charge, so a strong diffusion can be expected in the coming days.
Regarding the technical specifications required to download Bing Traduttore, it’s important to note that it works on smartphones equipped with Windows Phone 7 operating system or higher.
