Based on the High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) video compression and the Material Exchange Format (MXF) standard, Canon has created the XF-HEVC format with encoding performance twice as efficient as the classic H.264/AVC. Thanks to the XF-HEVC format, the XF705 camcorder can count on optimized 4K UHD data management and record high-quality 4K UHD/50P files with 4:2:2 10-bit color sampling on SD cards.
It is possible to record HDR files internally using the HDR Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantisation (PQ) curves. Furthermore, it features numerous HDR assistance functions to help the user control exposure. The XF705 also allows simultaneous HDR/SDR production: it is in fact capable of outputting an SDR signal while internally recording an HDR file to an SD card. Equipped with an advanced 12G-SDI interface, it can also send a high-quality uncompressed UHD/50P signal via a single SDI cable, thus transmitting an HDR signal in 4K UHD in HEVC format.
