BlackBerry increasingly looks towards Android

BlackBerry’s future might increasingly be characterized by the Android system.

In the world of smartphones and tablets, the real competition remains strongly tied to just two entities: iOS and Android.
The other operating systems do not seem to have made a significant breakthrough in the hearts of mobile device users, for a wide variety of reasons that – however – are not the focus of this article.
It has been learned in these hours that a very well-known telephone company is reportedly considering a move – or at least an increasingly concrete interest – towards Android.
This is BlackBerry, for years at the forefront for creating devices particularly useful for work needs, before simple communication.
However, the proprietary operating system lacks a certain “vigor” or, more precisely, lacks the same volume of applications that are developed daily for Android and iOS.
After introducing the BlackBerry Priv device, based on Android, to the market, company leaders have therefore reportedly decided to continue working on devices that will run on the green robot’s system.
It is manager Damian Tay, senior director at BlackBerry, who supports a scenario that is much more than a simple hypothesis. He recently declared frankly that “the future is Android,” thus drawing a line towards this new direction.
It should be noted that the transition will not only focus on device operability but will primarily concern apps that are currently exclusive to BlackBerry: the latter, developed in-house, are being revised to make them available for Android; these are mostly apps for the business world, which has always been the core of BlackBerry’s projects and business.
However, BlackBerry OS will not be abandoned at all, as CEO John Chen took care to clarify: new updates for the operating system, now in its version 10, will be released shortly to continue providing useful support to those who own a BlackBerry device.

Furthermore, on this front, some technical measures are being strengthened to ensure the necessary security required by bodies such as government agencies, as protocols in this regard must be quite strict.
Therefore, according to these concise but important statements, BlackBerry’s medium-term future seems marked by extensive study of Android environments, an upcoming release of a new Android smartphone, and – conversely – no new models equipped with BlackBerry OS.
