Bip Mobile Updates: Portability and Credit No Longer Guaranteed

Lost credit and **unreliable portability** for **Bip Mobile** SIM cards: here are the latest **updates**.

Black clouds are gathering over the fate of Bip Mobile customers: the virtual mobile operator has announced that portability to other operators is no longer guaranteed as previously announced.
The situation appears confusing and very uncertain, even more so than in recent weeks: it seems that all those who have already made a portability request by January 13th will have no problems and will switch to a new operator.
For those who have not yet decided what to do and have therefore not activated any portability request by the aforementioned date, the transfer will not be guaranteed at all.
The reason was explained, according to a spokesperson for Adiconsum, one of the consumer associations present at the meetings with the staff of the Communications Regulatory Authority: Bip Mobile has indeed informed AgCom that it does not know how long it will be able to pay the partner company that manages everything.
Therefore, it is uncertain whether all portability requests will be correctly and successfully processed.
Concretely, in numbers, it is estimated that there are approximately 60,000 Bip Mobile SIM cards still “stuck” and without a transfer request to another operator at the current time.
It is unclear whether these are lines that have been non-operational for a long time – therefore independent of the operational stop on December 30th last – or if instead we are talking about lines for which the owners have not yet decided which operator to switch to.
As of today, however, it appears that around 100,000 portability requests have already been fully processed.

Regarding the remaining credit, only a few operators – including 3 Italia – have decided to recognize at least part of the amounts otherwise lost to Bip Mobile customers.
It should be noted, however, that this is a promotional initiative, as there is no legal obligation for the new provider to credit the remaining balance to the customer: this should actually come from the outgoing operator’s funds.
A certainly complicated, very confusing and constantly evolving situation that we will continue to follow.
