Apple confirms that an attack on the developer section occurred. Here’s what happened and the current situation.
A severe blow to Apple’s system security: it is learned today that in recent days the section dedicated to developers was breached by hackers.
Everything, apparently, seems to have occurred on Thursday, July 18, 2013, when someone managed to access this specific part of the Apple systems, likely managing to steal some information.
The extent of this attack is not yet known, however.
Regardless, the Apple personnel responsible for monitoring – who noticed the incident – decided to temporarily suspend access to the developer section, forcing it offline.
The more observant, however, became suspicious due to the fact that the limitation persisted for a considerable time: it seemed too long for a normal maintenance intervention.
Some media outlets, such as AllThingsD, therefore attempted to contact Apple personnel responsible for this sector to request explanations.
Indeed, something unusual was happening: the Cupertino company responded with the truth, admitting that the unavailability of the developer pages was due to extraordinary maintenance following a breach.
Apple specified that subscriber data is encrypted, but it is still not possible to definitively rule out the theft of some details, pertaining to a very limited number of subscriber profiles.
Apple also announced, through statements released to the website MacWorld, that currently it appears that no customer accounts have been compromised and that application data, as well as code, also appear to be secure.
