5 features of Google+ that Facebook doesn’t have

Google+ has implemented business pages for some time now, following Facebook’s example. However, the Mountain View social network features 5 distinct peculiarities different from the Facebook platform. Let’s look at them in detail.

The launch of Google+ business pages raised questions among companies. One of these concerns the reason to use this social network and what features Facebook does not have.

Susan Gunelius, a marketing expert, listed 5 characteristics specific to Google+ business pages that Facebook (currently) has not introduced.

Given the rapid pace of updates in the Internet world in general and social media in particular, these 5 features might undergo changes.

  1. Circles
Unlike Facebook, Google has introduced in the social network this particular form of classifying our friendships, acquaintances, etc. Classification by circles is an absolute novelty and is applicable not only to private profiles but also to business pages. Undoubtedly, circles help classify messaging according to logics set by the administrator.
  2. Google Hangouts
Unlike Facebook, Google video meetings (Google Hangouts) are integrated into the Google+ platform. Facebook, instead, needs third-party tools (Skype, etc.) to offer these services to its users.
  3. Saved searches
With the saved searches function (sometimes called Sparks), Google+ keeps track of what is being said online about your brand. To understand the conversations about your brand, just enter a keyword. It is also possible to save the search and display it in Google+ on the sidebar to keep track of content and conversations important to your company.
  4. Ripples
Although Google+ does not allow tracking of page statistics as Facebook’s Insights does (many actually expect integration with Google Analytics soon), Google offers Ripples which illustrates the ripple effect on the Internet of the news posted and shared, showing how people share and react to your news.
  5. Results in Google’s organic search and Direct Connect
Google is the most well-known search engine worldwide, so much so that for some it is “the search engine.” Many SEO experts believe that sharing news on the Google+ platform and the “+1” done on the Google+ button are important factors for organic search ranking on the search engine. This is unlike Facebook’s “Like” which for various reasons (including Google’s inability to enter Facebook due to Mark Zuckerberg’s company’s prohibition) does not influence website rankings in Google’s organic search. Additionally, by adding the “+” sign before the brand (example: +Google) in Google’s search field, it is now possible to find the brand’s page within Google+. Currently, the service is in beta and limited to a selected number of brands but will soon be made available to everyone.
