The latest rumors suggest Facebook is once again making a move to acquire a highly successful company in the mobile and applications sector. Apparently, WhatsApp is the new “object of desire” for Facebook , which recently completed another noteworthy acquisition: that of Instagram.
Once again, the mobile sector is capturing the social media giant’s interest. This topic is certainly not new: it’s now widely known that Facebook’s headquarters have been working for months on developing new strategies to become disruptive not only on the web and via desktop access but, above all, from mobile devices.
These latter devices – from smartphones to tablets – are indeed becoming increasingly prevalent in users’ browsing habits, and Facebook knows that the battle for online presence is being fought entirely on this front.
WhatsApp, an instant messaging service that seems to have no rivals or comparisons, is reportedly in Facebook’s sights, as predicted by TechCrunch magazine.

Naturally, the leadership of both companies – as is customary in such cases – neither confirms nor denies, which might actually be a sign that negotiations could indeed be underway.
Regarding the potential valuation of such an acquisition, it’s absolutely impossible to make any estimates, as WhatsApp has never disclosed figures or user numbers. It’s therefore difficult to quantify, but such an acquisition would undoubtedly be highly interesting, perhaps more for industry insiders than for the end consumer.
