If you want to be known in the digital world, you cannot do without a website, the cornerstone of your business. Before creating a website, however, you need to register a domain name and purchase web space.

Registering a domain

The first thing to do is to register a domain. On the GoDaddy website, this function is very simple. The menu at the top indicates the “Domains” option. Clicking on it takes you to a page with a form to check if your chosen domain is available. Since domain registration has been possible for several years, if our chosen domain name is very common and has an equally widespread extension (.it, .com, .net), it will most likely already be registered. So what to do?

The advice is to work with a bit of imagination, trying to register a domain name with the following characteristics:

• it’s not too long;
• it’s easy for users to remember;
• it’s related to the business undertaken;
• it’s original (as far as possible);
• it’s easy to type as it’s pronounced (for foreign names).

Once our domain is available, all we have to do is register it by following the simplified procedures of GoDaddy.

Purchase web space

After successfully registering the domain name, we need to purchase web space on GoDaddy which is called hosting. Our web space will allow us to host the CMS (Content Management System), which is the software used to create the site (WordPress is one of the most popular and is open source), and all related files. Hosting is always located on a server belonging to the company that hosts the service and should not be confused with housing, which is a completely dedicated server.

A hosting service allows you to use a part of a server in exchange for a fee. Because the term “web hosting” is very common, it is generally shortened to simply “hosting”, from the English “to host”.

Therefore, an online presence cannot be achieved without these two elements: domain name e and hosting (web space). In this case too, the “Hosting” option is found in the main menu of GoDaddy
