Super Mario Soon on Tablets and Smartphones: Nintendo’s New Strategy

Super Mario could soon arrive on smartphones and tablets, not in the form of a full-fledged app but as part of a different marketing strategy proposed by Nintendo.

In these hours, statements made by the president of Nintendo America are being discussed, who foresees – and hints at – the arrival of Super Mario on tablets and smartphones in the future.
This is a decision that certainly does not represent any innovation in the gaming world, and one could easily object that an exit of this kind appears rather late compared to some competitors and, in general, to the world of videogame developers.
What makes the prospect different, however, is the very purpose towards which the president of Nintendo America, Reggie Fils-Aime, seems to want to aim: it is learned that Super Mario, in fact, will not arrive on mobile devices in the form of a “classic” app.
A different marketing model is indeed being studied, in order to propose a very different form of engagement.
Reggie Fils-Aime explained: “We are thinking about small, quick experiences, very short and immediate titles, to be used as a marketing tool to bring users from tablets to our consoles”.
Nintendo, therefore, shows no intention of abandoning its historical console platform, but rather of continuing to focus on them with ever-increasing conviction, seeking a new target: that of tablet and smartphone gamers.

A plan of “cross-media,” so to speak, that knows how to integrate Nintendo’s core work and mission in the ever-expanding field of mobile devices.
However, it should be clarified that it is not known when Nintendo titles will be appropriately offered to the audience: Reggie Fils-Aime’s statements have not provided room for hypotheses regarding possible launches and time references.
