Sony Xperia S “Nozomi”: dual core smartphone coming soon

The first dual-core smartphone from Sony is ready: it’s called Sony Xperia S – also known as Sony Nozomi – and it’s coming to stores. Here’s the initial information about the features and price of the Sony Xperia S.

Sony seized the opportunity provided by the CES 2012 to present its new smartphone, which is already much talked about.
Its name is Sony Xperia S but it has often also been referred to as “Sony Nozomi“: it is the same device.
There are two innovations that attract particular attention: first of all, the fact that it is a Sony and not a “Sony Ericsson”.
The second point, much more important in terms of smartphone functionality, is that Sony Xperia S is a dual core.
It goes without saying that we are looking at a high-end smartphone, both in terms of performance and price.
The processor, as mentioned, is a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon with 1 GB of RAM that supports the Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread: this is the native version chosen for the launch, however it is already certain that it will be possible to perform a system update to install Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The photo and graphics capabilities are impressive: the main camera is 12 Megapixels with Sony Exmor R, equipped with LED flash, autofocus, and digital zoom.
It is also possible to shoot HD videos in 1080p. All of this can be viewed on the Mobile BRAVIA capacitive touchscreen measuring 4.3 inches with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels.
The front camera, useful for video calls, is 1.3 Megapixels.
The connectivity compartment is complete: Bluetooth, Wi-fi, HSPA networks, USB, DLNA, NFC, and HDMI.
One drawback is probably related to the available internal memory: in the 32 GB version, it cannot be further expanded via SD or microSD cards.
Sony Xperia S appears as a condensed version of Sony products, having borrowed something from Bravia TVs, something from PlayStation, and more from the latest technologies used for Sony cameras.
An interesting and high-level mix, which certainly corresponds to a fitting price that should be around 550 to 600 euros.
Regarding the release date, it should arrive in Italy at the end of March, while the possibility of updating to Android 4 will be given in the second half of the year.
