Shared Login Between WhatsApp and Facebook: Coming Soon?

Single login for WhatsApp and Facebook: the novelty is reportedly ready for actual deployment on smartphones.

Despite Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp, the social media giant has not yet drastically altered the instant messaging service. At the same time, it has not attempted to integrate the two ‘universes’ of interaction, keeping everything distinctly separate. Until now. Apparently, a rather significant convergence between WhatsApp and Facebook is reportedly underway, focusing on shared login.
What does this mean?
According to very recent rumors, the ability to use WhatsApp without a mobile number, by logging in with the credentials used to access Facebook, is in the testing phase.
This novelty emerged because some developers noticed the existence of the page alpha.whatsapp.com, where one can read “Log in via Facebook”. The word “Facebook” is clickable and leads to a Facebook page requesting authorization to proceed via SSO technology, i.e., single sign-on authentication.

Moving in this direction, therefore, the two services would, in a sense, ‘unite,’ allowing users to use one and/or the other with a single identification and authentication step.
When all of this will be made effectively usable by everyone and how much it will be accepted by users, is yet to be understood.
Similarly, one would also have to speculate on the fate of Facebook Messenger, which, at this point, could become a superfluous or at least secondary app for Facebook.
