Here are the technical specifications and price of the “Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition,” the highly anticipated Ubuntu Phone.
We have long followed the preparation process for what was supposed to be the first smartphone with Ubuntu: Ubuntu Edge – this was the name chosen for the device – never saw the light of dayas enough funds could not be raised, necessary for the further development of the project.
However, news has recently emerged that the device “Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition” will be launched very soon: this is the new name given to the smartphone that runs on the Ubuntu Linux operating system on mobile devices.
The company that produced the new Ubuntu Phone model is BQ, a Spanish manufacturer.
The specifications of this new smartphone, it’s important to clarify right away, are not top-of-the-line, but rather entry-level. The same can be said, however, for the price, which is in the low range: we are talking about figures between 150 and a maximum of 170 euros to purchase the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition.
Let’s get to the details: the processor is a MediaTek quad-core with Cortex-A7 architecture, supported by 1 GB of RAM and with 8 GB of internal memory natively available. To have more storage capacity, you will need to get a microSD card up to a maximum of 32 GB.
The display is 4.5 inches with a qHD resolution of 540×960 pixels. The camera setup consists of a main camera with 8 megapixels (with autofocus system and flash) and a front camera with 5 megapixels.
The detail regarding the SIM slots is interesting: it is actually a dual SIM smartphone. The last detail concerns the battery, which will be 2150 mAh: the battery life should be more than satisfactory.
Regarding sales, it’s important to know that the Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition will not be sold in every store or online shop, but most likely only through selected websites of European mobile operators and in a limited number of units.
We will certainly talk about it again as soon as detailed information about its actual availability is released.
