Just a couple of days ago, we talked about the directives issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority to Google Street View, and just a few minutes ago, the news arrived that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office has opened a file specifically on the Google Street View service.
Agencies have reported that the Rome Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into Google Street View to determine if and to what extent Google’s service violates privacy. The starting point is precisely the crime of privacy violation, in the wake of the controversy surrounding Wi-Fi network data accidentally “captured” by the equipment mounted on Google cars as they passed through city streets.
Google immediately stated its availability to collaborate with the Italian authorities, apologizing for what unintentionally occurred.
The investigation – currently against unknown individuals – has been assigned to public prosecutor Eugenio Albamonte, while Google’s lawyers in Italy are Giulia Bongiorno and Giuliano Pisapia.
